Originally a maritime reference, the phrase “steady as she goes” referred to the ships that navigated dense waters. It was vital to keep the ship steady so that it didn’t capture on aqua. The ancient ships would sail along exceptionally well in predictive seas. The first sign of unpredictability, however, can place the ship into chaos requiring a strong leader at the helm.
